Theme leaders and the list of invited projects for Phase 2 are the following. This information was correct as of October 3, 2013. It is subject to revision during the planning process. Two additional projects are being considered but have not as yet been invited by the Research Management Committee to submit full project descriptions. Theme leads/co-leads and those additional RMC members listed for each theme are expected to be available to assist the project leads/co-leads with a theme refine their project descriptions.
Phase 2 themes and projects will officially commence on April 1, 2014. In the interim, the Phase 1 themes and projects will begin winding down and in some cases research that was initiated in those projects will be transitioning to the new theme and project structure. During the transition period the Phase 2 theme leaders and co-leaders will be working with the Phase 2 project leaders and co-leaders to develop the theme and project descriptions for Phase 2.

Partner Projects (special "big bet" projects that span across themes)
GRAND will have a small number of Partner Projects that will be characterized by their high risk / high reward and cross-cutting nature and by their potential to have a very significant impact on the Canadian digital media sector. Partner Projects will be high visibility co-investments with external partners. The projects will be tightly coupled, they will have a higher degree of autonomy in allocating their resources, and they will be expected to have much greater engagement with and larger contributions from the receptor community than regular projects within GRAND.
